And it is usually at those times that motivation finds you and reminds you why you’re working so hard.

Friday night we helped host a film screening of Bouncing Cats with Outback Adventures, and Redbull.

Got there early to help set up and warm up with Bodyrock.

This event has had me excited for weeks. I’ve been looking forward to watching the documentary about bboying in Uganda, and how it has affected thousands of people in a positive manner.
Before the show began, Bodyrock cyphered to set the mood.

When the performance was over everyone settled in and got ready to watch the movie.

It’s hard to describe how powerful this documentary was without watching it, which is why I fully recommend anyone interested to go and see it.
There is something inspiring about watching people with a passion follow their dreams. That is exactly what is captured in this film. Against all odds Abraham “Abramz” Tekya founded Breakdance Project Uganda with the sole intention of uplifting the youth.
It’s easy to write off art and dance projects as frivolous because it isn’t clear how practical solutions can come from them. But as K’naan pointed out in the film, it is the empowerment that comes from dance which eventually inspires practical solutions. You need to have empowered youth if you want to have any hope of dreamers and leaders to emerge. That is exactly what the power of dance can do.
After seeing how much one man can do, even without any resources, it drives home the motivation for anyone following their dreams. There are so many opportunities and resources available to Ninja Neishon that allow us to help out our local and international community. It is a matter of perseverance, patience, and passion and it is brought to life by the momentum of the idea.

Time to do work.

Outback put up a prize package out to help raise money for the foundation Invisible Children who’s mission is to help children affected by the atrocities in war torn regions of the world.

You can’t help but want to dance after putting on a fresh NN shirt.

Went to celebrate Amy and Asahi san’s birthday.

Nujabes, friends, food and a cypher. That’s what it’s all about.

A full night of fun.

Here’s what’s up, the production crew needs some help getting some more legs under the project. This is what the product coordinator Adam is looking for:

“1. A web designer. I’m looking for someone with web design experience who wants to jump on board and VOLUNTEER (in hopes of future pay once we get funding). If you’re interested, e-mail your resume/examples of work to adam@shakethedust.org.

2. Funding! If you know any grants, public or private donors, or great brands interested in commercial partnerships (or just want to donate a bunch of money yourself) please let me know. All of our funding is being run through The Harrison Center for the Arts who are acting as our fiscal agent. They will be insuring that all of the funds are handled properly and with integrity as well as helping make any donation TAX-WRITE-OFFABLE. Again, e-mail me at adam@shakethedust.org.

3. Dancers/Connections! We’re working on developing connections with B-boys and street dancers across the planet. We’re excited to partner with people in places like Cambodia, Korea, Uganda, among many other places. The concept: Invite 16 of the world’s best professional BBoys to the event, divide them randomly into 8 groups of two one hour before the start of the finals; the so-called ‘Great Eight’.

Earlier that same day eight duos from an open qualifier tournament get a chance to qualify for the World BBoy Classic Main Event, the so-called ‘Challengers’.

Pretty epic.

We had the Beers for Books event and the next day went to Hoover High School’s bboy jam. We’ll be posting photos and a recap from Beers for Books in a couple days, but first here is our work from Hoover.

The kids came out to jam. They are surprisingly good for their age already busting out hand hops and windmills. Pretty crazy stuff.

Aaron, Feelix and Tim went to battle and made it to the top 8! Well done Ninjas. Tim’s moving too fast for any camera to catch on film.

After a successful night it was time to finish it off right. Time for some real food.

This past Saturday Asahi had an exhibition battle over in Chula Vista. Ninjas came out to support him and to enter some battles.

It will be on May 28 from 6-9pm at 4474 El Cajon Blvd, San Diego, CA 92115. It’s $5 at the door and there’s a $300 prize for 3 v 3 battle.

Come through whether you’re competing or just want to watch, should be a lot of fun. And of course stop by the Ninja Neishon booth for some great event specials and to hang out with us.

Also, the reason why I took two days to post another entry is because of this:

Reason, Logic and Abbleton are very powerful sound engineering/recording/live performance software that I used to work with a lot. Once The Neishon was in full swing I didn’t have much time to really work on music.

But I’d like to announce that this post marks my reappearance on the scene and I’d like to offer you Ninjas a chance to be a part of it. The first two emails I receive with recommendations on remixes will be the first songs I work on. Pick your favorite song that you want remixed with some electro/breakbeat flavor and I’ll see what I can put together, then I’ll post it on this site when it’s ready.
